Steven Shores
Recent Paintings

Steven Shores' recent mixed media paintings take an irreverent look at contemporary culture by incorporating elements from advertising, the decorative arts and pop imagery. Mr Shores' wryly imaginative compositions embody a multitude of nostalgic thoughts and impressions. Conversely he is able to push his chosen materials to create his own inhabitants of a wonderfully mythic and undiscovered world.

Skin: Lily Hansen & Richard Wearn

Conduit Gallery will feature Skin a two person exhibition of recent works by Dallas artist Lily Hansen and New Zealander Richard Wearn.
Lily Hansen's paintings and drawings rely on the figure. Ms. Hansen's animal forms and eyeball blankets playfully allude to colonial masses or cloaked shapes in a perpetual struggle for release.
Quite the opposite, Richard Wearn's PVC, air-filled works are stark mechanical un-figures that dehumanize conventional notions of skin and it's biological inevitabilities.
Mr. Wearn earned his MFA from the University of Southern California.
He has exhibited internationally including shows at The Chinati Foundation, Marfa, TX; The Headlands Center for the Arts, San Francisco, CA; Linda Schwartz Gallery, Cinncinatti, OH; The Physics Room, Christchurch, New Zealand, and shows scheduled for 2004 in Havana, Cuba; Bariff, Canada and Innsbruck, Austria.

Carolyn Sortor
The Creamistress 6: The Centered Polenta

An admiring spoof of the art world blockbuster, Matthew Barney's Cremaster Cycle, Creamistress 6 is a dryly humorous, "Wind Done Gone" style response without quoting directly.
Creamistress 6 was written, directed and produced by Carolyn Sortor. Ms. Sortor is a media based artist by night and a commercial real estate lawyer by day. She wrote and directed one previous video Looking Glasses which was selected for inclusion in the Texas Show at the 2000 Dallas Video Festival and also shown at SXSW. The exhibition will feature the seven-minute Creamistress 6 as well as stills and sculpture from the video. www.creamistress.com
