Juvenal Reis
Aftermath
The depth and persistence of Mr. Reis' encaustic paintings reveal themselves through a visceral dialogue between the artist and viewer. The encaustic process allows Reis the ability to explore and to communicate through layers of hidden and exposed brilliantly colored wax. With affective and direct color palettes, Mr. Reis is able to convey both the brooding moodiness and the delicate quietude of color field painting. Often working in a series, each panel becomes an interplay between organized chaos and deliberate intention. As the eye is led over the surface and through the layers and sinews of Mr. Reis' paintings there unfolds an ever-increasing understanding of the exploration of art undertaken by artist and viewer alike.
