Harold Boyd
Betwixt
Often depicted in moments of the everyday such as conversing, dancing, tripping or standing, Boyd's figures are an endearing look at humanity. In the past no one went unscathed by his gesture-ridden line, including Adlai Stevenson, Eleanor Roosevelt, and even Gandhi. He has been deemed 'a master of line and psychological nuance.' The true splendor in Boyd's work is that despite taking a comical look at humans in their least glorious states, he shows the utter beauty inherent in the figures.
Boyd studied art at the University of Kansas and at Ohio State University. After completing his Master of Fine Arts degree, he began teaching at Illinois State in 1965. He work has been exhibited in one and two-person exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum of Art; Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art; San Francisco Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.
Kenneth Holder
Canadian River Paintings
Kenneth Holder has a vital history as a landscape painter. He is a virtuoso of the heroic landscapes of West. Holder's most recent artistic venture goes deep into West Texas to focus on the Canadian River and its sprawling panoramas. His use of hyperrealism in these extended canvases convey the grandiose size and dynamic coloration of these ethereal vistas.
PROJECT ROOM
James Michael Starr
Recent Works in Assemblage
Conduit Gallery presents James Michael Starr in a solo exhibition in the Project Room at Conduit Gallery. Starr takes a stand in the art world rarely seen today - he combines secular with spiritual. Once considered the hallmark of great art, it has become taboo in recent years. Unless used for shock or social commentary, religious themes seem to be nonexistent in the current arts. What is most appealing about Starr's work is that he combines the two delicately and without being overbearing. By relying on found objects that he considers beautiful and aged by time, Starr creates pieces that invite hours of reflection and introspection.
