June 5 through July 3, 2004
Conduit Gallery is turning 20.
The gallery is marking two decades of presenting provocative, substantive works of art to the Dallas public.
In June 2004, the gallery will have an exhibition and party to celebrate the remarkable talents of the 29 artists represented.
In preparation for the 20th Anniversary exhibition, Conduit's artists have been invited to work on site in the gallery over a period of 2 weeks.
The project will involve artists working solo and together to create an installation that will reflect their dynamic and varied working modes.
The terrain for working, undesignated and unrestricted space anywhere in the gallery will allow for the project to develop in an organic way.
It will also allow for whatever collaborative efforts may naturally occur as artists work next to each other and in random places in the gallery.
Throughout the two weeks, during the days and evenings, friends and patrons are encouraged to drop by and view the work in progress.
It will be a unique opportunity to glimpse the processes by which these artists investigate and approach art making.
GALLERY HISTORY
Conduit Gallery was founded by Nancy Whitenack, who opened the gallery in March 1984, with its first space at 2814 Elm Street in Deep Ellum.
The gallery moved to 3200 Main Street in 1991, into a space designed by architect Graham Greene.
With its move to 1626 Hi Line in 2002, Conduit has doubled its exhibition space to 4,000 sq. ft. thus affording the opportunity to run three shows, including The Project Room (formerly known as The Annex) which focuses on unrepresented and emerging artists.
