The Once Over Twice
Conduit Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of work by Dallas based artist, Lily Hanson: The Once Over Twice. In the exhibition, Hanson will create a site-specific installation in the gallery’s Project Room that will serve as a domicile for her small abstract sculptures.
Named for the LA punk band, X’s song of the same name, The Once Over Twice describes a certain particularity in the studio with which Hanson began conceptualizing the exhibition. The attitude of this particular music has infiltrated Hanson’s studio practice, giving it, as the artist describes, a “fuck it, shitty shit happens, get over it,” intention that becomes both energizing and motivating. The show’s title and the works in it describe and reflect Hanson’s approach, with each sculpture getting the “the once over twice.” Like the mixed media sculptures, comprised of foam, fabric and wood constructions, the end result is both poignant and playfully unhinged.
Lily Hanson lives and works in Dallas, Texas. She earned a BA from Hampshire College in Amherst, Main 1995 where she focused on Printmaking and Sculpture. Hanson earned an MFA from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas in 2000. Exhibitions of her work include; The Epitome Institute, San Antonio, TX (2015), RE Gallery (2014), Artadia, Brooklyn, NY (2013), Fallas Dart Air, Dallas, TX (2012), Museum of the Southwest, San Diego, CA (2010) and And/Or Gallery (2008). She received The Dozier Travel Grant from The Dallas Museum of Art in 2007.
