Sandra Ono is a San Francisco based sculptor who assembles everyday materials (trash bags, mop heads and aluminum foil) into beautiful and curious biomorphic shapes that transcend their materials. Her media, carefully chosen consumer goods typically used on the body, subtly refer back to the body and reference the micro and the macro of everyday consumerism.
Sandra Ono earned an M.F.A. from Mills College in Oakland, CA in 2008 and a B.F.A. from the University of California, Davis in 2003. She has exhibited through out California and has been awarded several prestigious residencies including; Southern Exposure, San Francisco, CA (2013); the Headlands Center for the Arts, San Francisco, CA (2012); Kala Art Fellowship and Residency Award (2011); and the Vermont Studio Center Full Fellowship Award supported by the Joan Mitchell Foundation. low tide will be Ono’s second exhibition at Conduit Gallery.
