Christopher Schade

Island Paintings

opening reception for the artists:
Saturday, September 16, 2006  6 to 8 PM

Eight large-scale paintings comprise Christopher Schade's second one-person exhibition at Conduit Gallery.
Each painstakingly intricate painting takes the viewer to an isolated island world where dimensions emerge and disappear, day and night coexist and the rocky landscape folds infinitely into patterned terrain. Schade uses the island form to paint people, animals, plants, architecture, mechanical objects, portraits and landscapes simultaneously. The openness of the morphologic islands creates a space for freedom as well as contradiction.

Born in 1971, Christopher Schade earned a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Yale University.
Exhibitions since 2004 include; Salon Centro Projects, Mexico City, MX; CRG Gallery, New York, NY; Michael Martin Gallery, San Francisco, CA and David Berman Gallery, Austin, TX.
